Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Release Date Revealed

Activision has brought Modern Warfare 2 to port with a massive reveal and official release date for the hotly anticipated title.

The Call of Duty franchise has never been known for subtly, from massive action movie style set pieces to white knuckle multiplayer action, it goes big. It's only fitting that in the next leg of revealing Modern Warfare II, Activision pulled out the "biggest-in-sheer-size" entertainment advertisements of all time. The latest rollout involved cargo ships, drones and thousands of square feet of MW2 artwork.

Ships passing in the night

During a 24-hour period, a crew moved a huge cargo ship with a 90,000 square foot Modern Warfare II wrap that prominently displayed the popular and fan-favorite Call of Duty video game character Simon "Ghost" Riley. When the ship docked at Long Beach Port, California, a huge puzzle was revealed, as the docking area contained another MW2 image that matched with the cargo ship's wrap.

Eyes in the sky

The docking occurred as drone footage captured the ship's movement, while also providing a first look at the game's squad, "Task Force 141." You can have a look at the entire high flying sequence here:

The reveal showed off which includes a global cast of characters; from fan favourites like Captain John Price, John "Soap" MacTavish, Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, and a new character, Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas. The artwork also finally revealed the worldwide release date of the eagerly anticipated title for October 28, 2022.

Future Modern Warfare 2 Reveals

Traditionally, Call of Duty has had its time on the E3 main stage for big, blowout reveals. With the event cancelled for this year, it will be interesting to see where Modern Warfare II's next big showing arrives. It could appear at Summer Game Fest, a future Xbox or PlayStation event, or have a showcase all its own.

While we don't have any details on what the game will entail just yet, we do know that it is being developed by Infinity Ward. Platforms have not been announced, but it's a fair bet to say that the title will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Details are unclear whether the game will be next-gen exclusive or also come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
