Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ll First Look

Infinity Ward delivered on its global premiere of Modern Warfare 2 with an action packed, high octane trailer.

It's time to get tactical! The first look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has arrived, and it looks incredible. The trailer picks up right where the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot left off, with many returning fan favourite characters.

Players will fight alongside the most iconic characters in Modern Warfare, including Captain Price, Ghost, Soap, Gaz and Laswell, as well as encounter a host of lethal new allies like Mexican Special Forces, Colonel Alejandro Vargas and adversaries drawn from the murkiest corners of the global war on terror.

Players will join the newly formed Task Force 141 as it faces a massive global threat. The action takes players around the world as the team works to neutralize a terrorist conspiracy and attack on the US, spanning locations around the globe.

New Gameplay Innovations

In 2019, Infinity Ward introduced a new engine into the Call of Duty experience, one that revolutionized the virtual combat. This new tech brought with it many fresh features and improvements that made the game more realistic than ever before. The use of night vision goggles, for example, has added greater depth, strategy and stunning visuals to the series.

A unified experience in the IW 8.0 engine

The IW 8.0 engine has done wonders for the graphical appeal of the series, and now the same engine is driving Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward has made a "Next-Gen" tech debut for the first time in the history of Call of Duty, the crew is using one unified engine across all titles.

IW 8.0 has been upgraded with the best tech from across studios to create the most sophisticated engine ever in Call of Duty. As Activision explains, "Modern Warfare ll features a physically based material system allowing for state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile based streaming system, new PBR water and underwater decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, and more as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline. All of this is in service of a massive cinematic campaign."

The support for DirectX Ray Tracing is apparent in the trailer with explosions and lighting reflecting in rain soaked environments. It looks poised to add some amazing effects and improve image quality.

Stealth based combat

In the sequel Infinity Ward explains, "players will need to strategically consider the role of night vision, stealth, amphibious assaults, vehicular warfare, and more as they fight against the odds." Previews of early missions of the game from outlets like IGN and Gamespot confirm this. The first mission of the game has you sneaking around a harbour at night silently eliminating foes. I am hoping for a mix of different combat types from stealth, high action and vehicular mayhem, it's always been a cornerstone of the series' best games.

Multiplayer and Warzone 2.0

Along with the campaign details, Modern Warfare ll's multiplayer and a new Warzone 2.0 experience are on the way. Warzone 2.0 won't come out until later this year, but Activision is promising a "next-gen" experience from the mode.

A new gunsmith is also in the cards, looking to provide players with a massive amount of weapon customization.

Get ready to fight alongside Task Force 141 in a globe-trotting single-player campaign, play lone-wolf or rally with your team in multiplayer when the game launches on October 28th, 2022.
