Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion Officially Revealed

CD PROJEKT RED revealed a new Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, game updates and anime tidbits during its latest Night City Wire, all the details.

CD PROJEKT RED pulled back the curtain on a special Night City Wire episode, officially revealing the upcoming expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The expansion was revealed with a trailer by Game Director Gabe Amatangelo. He confirmed that a new cast of characters will be introduced in Phantom Liberty — V will interact with them inside a new location within Night City. The release date for Phantom Liberty is set in 2023 for PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.

Another big piece of news from the console list reveals that Cyberpunk 2077 is going "next-gen" exclusive, foregoing the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.


"He confirmed that a new cast of characters will be introduced in Phantom Liberty — V will interact with them inside a new location within Night City."

Following the trailer, a video message from Keanu Reeves was shown, in which he revealed that he would be reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand for Phantom Liberty:


Johnny Silverhand is coming back and so am I. Get ready for ‘Phantom Liberty,’ the upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. It’s awesome to be back playing the role of Johnny and I hope you’re excited to see him rock it out once more in the dark future. Keep an eye out for more info and I’ll see you again in Night City.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime

The Phantom Liberty drop special Night City Wire contained a bunch of juicy details about both the game and the upcoming anime set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The anime will be premiering on Netflix September 13th, so stay tuned for that! During a segment dedicated to the anime, Bartosz Sztybor — one of the show's creators — sat down for an interview to discuss the plot, themes, characters, and more. He also talked about how Studio Trigger — the legendary Japanese studio — brought the world of Cyberpunk 2077 into the anime realm.


Edgerunners Update - Patch 1.6

More information was revealed about Cyberpunk 2077's most recent update, the Edgerunners Update (also known as Patch 1.6), which adds equippable items from the anime to the game. In this game, players will be able to wear the jacket of protagonist David Martinez and use a shotgun wielded by another character from the anime.

The update also brings a plethora of features to the game including a clothing transmog system, cross-platform progression, playable Roach Race minigame arcade cabinets and more.
