Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Slices onto PS5 & PS4

Jin Sakai returns with a new island to explore and a host of improvements on the PlayStation 5.

This summer one of the quintessential PlayStation 4 experiences will make its return in an all-new director’s cut version. Ghost of Tsushima rides again on the PS4 and PS5 with a new region, storyline and a host of other improvements arriving on August 20th, 2021.

A new region to explore

The biggest surprise with the Director’s Cut is it will add a whole new area to the game called Iki Island. Tsushima, like the neighbouring Aki Island came under siege from Mongol forces making the new setting a natural choice for the expansion.

As protagonist Jin Sakai you will explore the island and get “caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past,” explains developer Sucker Punch Productions.

The Aki expansion will include a host of new adventure and challenges, there will also be "brand new environments to explore, new armor for Jin as well as his horse, new mini-games, new techniques, new enemy types, and much more. There are even new animals to pet!" Spoiler, one of the new animals is a monkey, and I am so excited to join forces with the little guys.

PlayStation 5 Features

The Director’s Cut will be coming to both the PS4 and PS5, but the latter will enjoy a host of exclusive features. The first is lip sync for Japanese voiceover in cutscenes which is only possible via the PS5 hardware. Thanks to the next-gen console’s ability to render cinematics in real time, cutscenes in Ghost of Tsushima and all new content will have full lip sync options for Japanese voice over.

Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will also be added to the game and it’s new online and offline modes. There will also be enhancements to 3D audio on PS5, faster load times and 4K resolution options targeting 60 FPS.

Pick up where you left off

If you are returning to the Island of Tsushima your save progress will join you no matter which platform you play the Director’s Cut on.

If you are joining the adventure for the first time the Aki Island content will become available at the beginning in Act 2 in Ghost of Tsushima, after you’ve made your way to the Toyotama region.
