New PS5 Accessories Are Going Cosmic

Get ready to expand your PS5’s wardrobe with some cosmic chic.

Sony has announced a new "Galaxy Collection" of gaming accessories, including PS5 console covers and DualSense controllers. This will, of course, also include a sleek Dapper Tux Black (aka…Midnight Black). The newest galaxy-inspired colours include Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. These hues join the already released Cosmic Red and Midnight Black DualSense wireless controller lineup.

Deep Space Inspiration

The new accessories feature a blackish hue that gives them their own unique look to help fit your style. As Sony explains, “Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky.” The scarlet red controller on the other hand offers a more galactic punch of colour, “Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos.”

Starting in late January 2022 you’ll be able to add these sharp-looking controllers and accessories to your PS5 hardware lineup. The 5 colours have been inspired by the deep depths of space, maintaining the galactic theme. I’m sure the intergalactic adventures from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal have something to do with the cosmic colour choices.

PS5 console covers

You can pair your DualSense controller with a matching PS5 console cover to complete the set, or mix and match. The new console covers come in the 5 aforementioned colours and look beautiful. If the early indication from installation instructions is anything to go by, they look fairly simple to swap out. First, you'll need to remove the original white PS5 console covers and replace them with the new shells. Just be sure to purchase the correct console configuration: The PS5 console covers will be available for the Blu-ray disc drive and the Digital Edition models.

A hue designed just for you

One of the controller’s designers Satoshi Aoyagi explains, “Both Midnight Black and Cosmic Red feature a subtle blue hue, that produces unique shades of red and black. A blue hue is also present in the original DualSense wireless controller colors, so all three colors compliment each other nicely. The controller’s button colors and detailing has been tailored to complement the new colors as well. We hope these new additions will bring further joy and excitement to our fans’ gaming experience.”

The new PS5 covers and controllers will be available at local retailers starting in late January, no specific date was given for the rollout. If you're ready to upgrade your PS5 look, the wait isn't very long for some cosmic chic.
