Silent Hill 2 Remake Emerges From The Fog
Konami and Bloober Team are working on a next-gen remake of Silent Hill 2.
Today, during Konami's Silent Hill Transmission video showcase, the company finally unveiled their plans to remake Silent Hill 2. After over 20 years it appears Silent Hill is back with multiple titles in development across gaming and film mediums. The reveal of the Silent Hill 2 remake came in the form of a trailer that showed off a host of visual and gameplay improvements.
Besides a beloved franchise returning, what's even more exciting is the developer helming the remake, Bloober Team.
Silent Hill 2 is in good hands
Bloober is no stranger to unique, heavily atmospheric horror games with titles like Layers of Fear, The Medium, Observer and Blair Witch under their belt. With their experience and proven track record in the genre, it's exciting to see the changes they'll make to Silent Hill 2. The first look given today has me extremely excited, it was only a few scenes but so far they have nailed the "look" of Silent Hill. Konami has indicated they are modernizing several gameplay aspects while also retaining the game's originality. The original creators, Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito are working together to make sure the new game still has that unique Silent Hill feel.
New Levels of Graphical fidelity
The new Silent Hill 2 experience will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, bringing the foggy, sinister town to life in ways that were not possible before. Unreal Engine 5 features like Lumen and Nanite will provide real-time lighting effects. The PS5's 3D audio capabilities will also be used to great effect, with sounds that seem to come from all around you. The gameplay will also be updated for modern audiences, including new combat mechanics and puzzles.
If you're a fan of the horror genre or just love the Silent Hill series in general, then this remake is definitely something to look forward to. With Bloober Team at the helm and the original creators involved, we can rest assured that this is going to be a truly terrifying experience like nothing we've seen before. I'm really looking forward to seeing what other changes they make as development continues, and I'm sure many others are too!
