Summer Game Fest 2022 Announcement Roundup

I've gathered every game, preview and big reveal that was on the main stage at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, let's dive in!

Since 2020, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest has played host to a tidal wave of game announcements, trailers and previews. This year was no different, and with E3 cancelled in all forms, SGF had plenty of heavy lifting to do on its own. Let's take a look the vast array of diverse titles across multiple genres shown off this year:


Street Fighter VI – Guile Reveal

The first trailer shown during Summer Game Fest was for the highly anticipated Street Fighter VI. The game is set to release in 2023 and will feature new and returning characters. In this trailer, we got our first look at Guile in action.


Guile is one of the original eight World Warriors from the first Street Fighter game. He is a master of Sonic Boom and the Flash Kick here he is in action:

Aliens: Dark Descent

Next up was a trailer for the next game in the Aliens franchise, Aliens: Dark Descent. The game is a squad-based, action game based in the iconic Alien franchise. Lead your soldiers in real-time to stop a new and terrifying kind of Xenomorph outbreak on Moon Lethe.

The trailer shows off some of the new enemies you will encounter, as well as the return of the Xenomorph Queen.

The Callisto Protocol - First Look at Gameplay

The next trailer shown was for The Callisto Protocol, a new horror game from the makers of Dead Space. The game is set in the year 2320 on Jupiter's moon Callisto and sees you take control of main protagonist Jacob Lee, who must battle for survival.


The trailer gives us our first look at gameplay, as well as some of the horrifying enemies you will face:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Gameplay

Gamers got their first look at Modern Warfare 2 gameplay as Task Force 141 took on "Operation Dark Water."


A majority of the footage takes place on oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico with deadly cargo. Task Force 141 found intel that shows missiles hidden on board and have dispatched a team of Soap, Ghost, and Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas. They enter the ship full of well-armed AQ enemies to locate the controls for a missile bound for the US. Watch the action unfold:

Flashback 2

The classic sci-fi side-scroller that became a cult gaming classic returns! The game will include modern graphics and improvements to gameplay. Conrad and his allies must once again face the Morphs, the alien race that threatens all civilizations:

Witchfire World Premiere Trailer

Witchfire is an upcoming first-person shooter developed by Polish independent studio The Astronauts for PC. At the show we got a first look at 2 Minutes worth of stunning 4K, 60FPS, HDR gameplay. Check it out below:

Fort Solis

Space horror is quickly becoming the new trend in new gaming releases, and Fort Solis continues that trend. During Summer Game Fest 2022 we got a first look at the new space horror game starring Troy Baker and Roger Clark. I am really looking forward to what the all-star cast can pull off in the creepy setting:

Routine

Routine has returned after enduring a soft relaunch by developer Lunar Software. The developer partnered with publisher Raw Fury to help bring the project back to life. The space-themed horror game looks like its shaping really well, with music composed by the legendary Mick Gordon (DOOM 2016)

Stormgate

From the official website: "Stormgate is a free-to-play PC real-time strategy game set hundreds of years in Earth’s future. Take command of the human resistance, the demonic invaders, or other factions yet to be revealed–solo or cooperatively. Build your base, harvest resources, and lead mighty armies in battle to emerge victorious."

One Piece Odyssey

An RPG with distinct features of adventure that have long been desired by One Piece fans, One Piece Odyssey will be a reality in 2022. The game will feature new character and monster designs produced by Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece. Check out the latest trailer:

Highwater

The upcoming adventure strategy game from Demagog Studio features a flooded world that players must explore. The very unique looking indie game will make its debut in 2022:

American Arcadia

Welcome to a retro-futuristic metropolis where citizens don't know they're contestants on a reality show. Losing favour with the audience can have deadly results, uncover the truth and escape with your life:

Goat Simulator 3

The popular Goat Simulator franchise returns with a new entry that takes the series in a more serious direction. Goat Simulator 3 will let players explore a new open world full of landmarks to destroy and people to, well, headbutt.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical role-playing game being developed by Firaxis Games in collaboration with Marvel Games. The game will feature comic book characters from different Marvel Comics properties, such as Midnight Sons, Avengers, X-Men, and Runaways. Players may construct their own superhero called "The Hunter" with more than 40 distinct abilities to choose from. Check out the latest trailer below:

Midnight Fight Express

Midnight Fight Express is a modern take on old-school brawlers. A former member of the criminal underworld is lured back into “the life” by a mysterious drone claiming they have until sunrise to prevent a citywide criminal takeover together, check out the trailer:

Neon White

An upcoming first-person shooter and puzzle-platforming game developed by Angel Matrix and published by Annapurna Interactive. Neon White will have players step into the role of an assassin who is tasked with slaying demons in order to gain access to heaven. The game will feature a unique art style, as well as a mix of fast-paced action and puzzle-solving. Check out the trailer below:

Cuphead: The Last Delicious Course

Cuphead: The Last Delicious Course is the upcoming expansion to the run-and-gun platformer Cuphead. The new DLC will add a host of new features, including a new playable character, Ms.Chalice, and new levels. Check out the trailer below:

Super People

Check out an extended cinematic teaser trailer for Super People, the new battle royale that's on the horizon. No gameplay was shown at Summer Game Fest, but a closed beta will be coming soon to PC.

Nightingale

Originally debuting at The Video Game Awards, we got a new look at Nightingale, a first person action crafting game. The most recent trailer unveiled Realm Card crafting, which allows players to create a portal to new areas.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

The latest look at Warhammer 40,000 franchise was unveiled at Summer Game Fest. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a co-operative first-person shooter set in the hive city of Tertium. Check out the trailer below:

Gotham Knights

A new gameplay trailer for Gotham Knights was revealed at Summer Game Fest. The trailer gives us a look at Nightwing. From Flying Grayson to Robin, to his own hero, he continues the fight for the city that gave him everything. Gotham City is his home and the people, his family. He’s got this:

Saints Row

A new trailer for Saints Row was revealed at Summer Game Fest. The trailer gives us a look at the game, as well as some of the new features that have been added. These include a new deep character customization system, called "Boss Factory." The character creation tool is very deep, allowing you to adjust plenty of details and use the character in the final game when it arrives on August 23.

Metal: Hellsinger

Fight your way through eight Hells to demolish demons and devils in this rhythm-based FPS. Brimming with diabolical adversaries, powerful weapons, and heavy metal music. Take the evil road in order to achieve the purest of objectives: Vengeance.

Humankind

The turn-based historical strategy game, in which players construct their own unique civilization by combining cultures, will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Game Pass day one.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is coming June 16! It will arrive on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility. The brand new trailer showcases the playable character Casey Jones:

Honkai: Star Rail

The upcoming free-to-play 3D tactical role-playing game is developed and published by miHoYo. Brand-new characters, as well as unique variations of existing characters from Honkai Impact 3rd, will be introduced.

Zenless Zone Zero

Z-Z-Z is an action role-playing game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic futuristic metropolis known as New Eridu. Ethereals are strange creatures that have emerged from the earth's core and traveled into the human world, wreaking havoc and wiping out most of the population. A select group of people from New Eridu have survived the oncoming onslaught by turning the Ethereal's technology and resources against them.

Soul Hackers 2

Soul Hackers 2 is set in the 21st century and takes place during a war between the Yatagarasu and the Phantom Society, two opposing factions of people who can summon devils. The story follows two beings from a different world who come prevent a cataclysmic event that will doom humanity.

Layers of Fears

Layers of Fears is a first-person psychedelic horror adventure game that focuses on tense exploration and immersive storytelling. It looks like a game that will keep me up at night, and I can't wait. It builds on the groundwork of Layers of Fear, LOF: Inheritance, and Layers of Fear 2 with a unique narrative and gameplay approach.

The Last of Us Franchise Closes Out Live Show

The final stages of the show had Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog Co-President, reveal news around the multiple-award winning franchise. The first announcement was around the studio creating a multiplayer "Last of Us" experience. There was only concept art shown but he confirmed it will be a full-scale, standalone game, with its massive scope and immense world, "in a way that fans have come to expect from Naughty Dog." This was far from a full reveal but Druckmann said there will be "more news to come next year."

The Last of Us on HBO Wrapping Up Filming

If you played any of the games in The Last of Us series, you can understand their commitment to the cinematic experience. In this vein, HBO recognized the potential and green-lit a live action series in November 2020. It has been filming the show in and around Calgary, Alberta and is in the final phases of production.Druckmann revealed he has taken on the roles of Executive Producer and Writer as well as directed a full episode of the TV series. As a fan of the game, I am excited (and relived) to hear there has been a deep collaboration between Naughty Dog and HBO, I am hoping it will ensure the continuity and quality of the game.

The Last of Us Part I PS5 + PC Reveal

To conclude Summer Game Fest Sony announced The Last of Us - Part I remake is coming to the PlayStation 5 on September 2, 2022. The title will also be released on PC, but no timeframe was given only alluding to the fact that it is "in development." The newly announced title is a complete rebuild of the title as opposed to a resolution and frame rate bump.
