Super Mario Bros. Wonder Launch Celebration in Toronto

Celebrate Super Mario Bros. Wonder launch at the Ontario Science Centre this weekend!

To celebrate the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo invited my family and I to the Ontario Science Centre to mark the occasion. A large event space at the rear of the building has been converted into a Wonder-ful experience for the whole family.

In the space various activities were set-up to learn more about and experience Nintendo latest 2D Mario adventure. We were able to learn more about the colourful Flower Kingdom with a scavenger hunt, play the game and take a photo with Mario himself. Let’s dive into the event and all it has to offer to help you plan your visit this weekend.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Scavenger Hunt

We toured around the Wonder-themed space and learned about new power-ups, fresh and returning foes and some of the new environments Mario and his pals adventure through in the game.

We had a blast discovering the different types of Wonder Flowers that can transform the levels in amazing ways, such as creating platforms, changing the weather, or revealing hidden secrets. We also got to see some of the enemies that Mario will face like Hoppycats, Condarts, spiky Spinies, and sneaky Snifits.

A Super Mario Photo Op

There were also a few photo opportunities in the space. The central photo spot dropped Dapper Jr. and I right into the centre of the Flower Kingdom. There is a photographer on-site who will take your photo and share it with you digitally.

The second photo op saw Mario himself pop out for a photo with us in between our playtime. He was very friendly and gave us high-fives and hugs. It was a dream come true for any Mario fan!

Jump into the unknown with Mario Bros. Wonder

Of course, the main attraction was playing Mario Bros. Wonder. I was excited to go hands on with the first new 2D side-scrolling Mario series in 10 years. As a family of three, Nintendo was ready for all of us to try the game at once with multiple 4-controller demo units throughout the space. We got to try out some early levels from the game, which were full of fun and surprises.

We loved using the new power-ups, like the Elephant Fruit that transforms you into (you guessed it!) a stomping Elephant and lets you smash through blocks and enemies with your trunk. The Bubble Flower was also a favourite that lets you shoot bubbles to trap enemies and pop them for coins. We also enjoyed playing as different characters, like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and my personal favourite Yoshi. Each character has their own abilities and perks that make them unique.

The game supports up to four players in local co-op mode, which is key for our family. Teaming up together was a blast! You can help each other out by throwing or carrying each other or compete for the highest score by collecting coins and power-ups. The game is very accessible and easy to pick up and play, and I am looking forward to playing more with my family.

A Wonderful Experience

If you’re looking for a fun day with the family at the Ontario Science Centre the Mario Wonder event is a perfect addition to a visit. You can also visit the Science Centre this weekend (Oct 21-22) from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM to experience the Wonder-themed event for yourself. If you can’t make the event, you can pick up your copy of Super Mario Bros. Wonder today in store, online or at the Nintendo eShop and experience the magic for yourself.

From our hands-on experience this weekend, Mario Wonder is a fun, colourful adventure that will bring a smile to your face. The limited time event offers a chance to play the game, meet Mario, enter a giveaway, and learn more about the Flower Kingdom. For more details, check out Nintendo’s official event page here.
