The Last of Us: HBO Series Gets Its First Full Trailer

The Last of Us Day 2022 celebrations culminate with a new extended look at the show with its first full trailer.

This year HBO and Naughty Dog kicked off the Last of Day 2022 with a tease of a new look at the live action The Last of Us series. As part of the celebrations, the first full trailer for the show has finally arrived:

The Last of Us is set twenty years after a global pandemic has decimated the world as we know it. The story follows Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, as they try to survive in this new, dangerous world.

Captures the look and feel of the games

The trailer gives us our first real look at the series, and so far it is staying true to the source material. We see Joel and Ellie sneaking around Cordyceps or "clickers" infected people, and using stealth to avoid them. From the settings to characters it looks like HBO and Naughty Dog have been able to capture the look and feel of the video game.

An HBO x Naughty Dog Collaboration

The Last of Us co-creator and director Neil Druckman has teamed up with Chernobyl series creator Craig Mazin to bring the project to life. Filming for the TV adaptation of The Last of Us began last year in Calgary, Alberta and information has been on a drip feed.

The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020 critical acclaim and set a new standard for video game storytelling. It is clear that HBO wants to match that with their series, and from what we see in the trailer they are off to a good start.

The Last of Us: HBO Series does not have a release date yet, but it has officially teased a 2023 release date.
