The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay and Hardware Revealed

Nintendo pulled the curtain back further on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom revealing new gameplay and a few other surprises.

Today Nintendo held a special video showcase focused on the upcoming game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The stream included 10 full minutes of never-before-seen gameplay footage. The stream was hosted by series producer Eiji Aonuma who guided fans through the footage.

Tears of the Kingdom is GOLD!

One piece of exciting news that was revealed at the start of the presentation was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has gone gold, meaning the game is now officially complete. This is great news for Zelda fans who will soon be able to experience the adventure.


New abilities in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

After the big news around development wrapping up Aonuma went on to show off new abilities that will be available to players in Tears of the Kingdom revealing Recall, Fuse, Ultrahand and Ascend. Let's look at each of the new abilities revealed:

Recall - allows Link to rewind time, lowering platforms and more.

Fuse - Allows you to combine items in battle to create new weapons to battle foes. In the new video, we saw a branch and a rock combined into a hammer. He also fused a mushroom with a shield and when it was stuck created a cloud of smoke that could be used to evade and confuse enemies.

Ultrahand - You can now build items in Tears of the Kingdom, in today's Link combined logs into a boat, but other options will be available.

Ascend - This allows Link to move upward without the use of stamina "beaming" to the top of any structure that has a roof.

Along with the new abilities we also got a first look at a new enemy called a "Construct." Link was able to dispatch a few sets of the enemy types above with new abilities.

New Nintendo Switch-themed Tears of the Kingdom hardware and accessories


The Nintendo Switch OLED is getting a Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition, featuring a design inspired by the game's artwork.

The new hardware will launch on April 28th. The limited edition hardware bears the Hyrulean Crest from series on the front of the dock. Along with other stunning gold accents.


Nintendo also revealed several new accessories to go with the Switch OLED, including a new carrying case, a new Pro Controller and a Gold Edition Joy-Con set that is exclusive to the Tears of the Kingdom Swith OLED bundle.

The stream ended with Aonuma thanking fans for their ongoing support and wishing everyone luck in their adventures when the game releases. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leading up to its launch.
