It’s February and love is in the air, why not spend time with your significant other in virtual worlds? I’ve got you covered with couch co-op fun and beyond on the PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Cupid’s Top Co-op Gaming Suggestions

Below you’ll find a selection of lighthearted, team-based fun with kitchen calamity, dance offs, platforming pandemonium and ragtag racing that your valentine is sure to love!

1. Overcooked! All You Can Eat (Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5) – for couples with a big appetite for a challenge [ESRB Rating: E]

If Cupid opened a diner to test relationship goals it would most definitely be named "Overcooked!" My wife and I absolutely love the series, it’s great for casual gamers to pick up and play, while offering a fun challenge for more experienced players.

The premise of the game is to operate a kitchen and assemble meals for customers. You are under pressure from demanding customers and the clock, so get those orders right!

This release serves up all previous culinary calamity with Overcooked 1, Overcooked 2 and all additional content from both releases. It’s been remastered with 4K visuals and deliciously fast load times taking advantage of PS5 and Xbox architecture. You’ll be challenged with difficult recipes, obstacles, and modes that always keep the menu fresh. The gameplay features a new throw mechanic, allowing you to toss ingredients around the kitchen to your fellow chefs, the health inspector is going to love it! The game offers some hilarious high stakes situations, with hangry customers but it’s all in good fun.

2. Just Dance 2021 (Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch) – for couples that enjoy working out together [ESRB Rating: E10+]

If you are into dancing the night away with your loved one, give Just Dance 2021 a spin! Ubisoft’s rhythm game is all about getting you moving, regardless of your skill level. If you are an athletic couple looking for ways to work out at home or you would prefer to limit your dance moves to the comfort of your own home (like me) Just Dance is a great option.

Players need to match the on-screen choreography with moves of their own to over 40 chart-topping hits like "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, "Adore You" by Harry Styles, and "Ice Cream" by BLACKPINK x Selena Gomez and more.

3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo Switch) – couples looking for an exotic island escape [ESRB Rating: E]

Are you looking for an island getaway this Valentine’s Day?

New Horizons lets you create your own little slice of virtual paradise. You’ll arrive at your own exclusive island, customize your character and begin building your humble abode. As you grow your community on the island you are treated to seasonal events and gifts. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a classic platformer together, and Mario is the perfect host for a fun evening in! Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is packed with content - new character power ups, levels and a whole new experience in Bowser’s Fury. The game features plenty of platforming challenges that will provide you with hours of couch co-op fun!

Gameplay has also been enhanced as characters move faster and the dash powers up more quickly. A camera mode has been added with Snapshot Mode

You can even recruit Bowser Jr. in Bowser's Fury to stop his dad’s path of destruction.

This game makes gaming for couples easy, right out of the box it only requires one Joy-Con controller for two player action, offering fun from the get-go!

5. Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5) - A cute, charming platforming experience [ESRB Rating: E]

The PlayStation exclusive is an absolutely charming game that shouldn’t be missed! It also fits into your Valentine’s plans perfectly because it’s an experience that is best shared with a special someone. The 3D platformer has you adventuring with Sackboy to defeat evil foes and save Craftworld. Your journey spans across multiple themed worlds keeping the gameplay fun and fresh. From snowy mountains to adventures in space you’ll find plenty of variety to keep you coming back for more.

Along the way you can explore and find additional accessories to give your sack characters a dapper new look. Between the adventure, fashion accessories and addictive gameplay you’ll be returning to Craftworld over-and-over again.

6. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo Switch) – for couples into fun, fast racing

[ESRB Rating: E]

Mario Kart 8 is a couch co-op must have, letting you race together through zany tracks with thrilling loop-de-loops, secret under water passages and big air jumps. I have been a Mario Kart fanatic since the first game was released on the SNES, and this entry is all the best elements of the series combined in one game. It’s a staple go-to in my gaming collection for pure, simple racing fun for everyone. With 48 tracks to explore, and over 40 unique characters to unlock and race as, Mario Kart will quickly find a spot in your heart.

Just don’t forget to use those turtle shells sparingly against your partner, you don’t want to end up in the doghouse like me!

7. Minecraft Dungeons (Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch) – A cute dungeon crawler with a Minecraft twist

[ESRB Rating: E10]

If you are a fan of Minecraft and dungeon crawlers this is a match made in pixelated heaven. Dungeons is a spinoff that lets you battle evil minions as some of your favourite Minecraft characters. This isn’t open world, nor does it have any mining or building, it’s all about combating waves of enemies.

This hack-and-slash experience is simple, accessible fun that will have you navigating through procedurally generated dungeons battling monsters, solving puzzles and seeking out treasures. You can play with up to 4 friends across the PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC.

A Mature Gaming Couples Getaway

These games are packed with Hollywood style shootouts and epic battles against the forces of evil! If you are a couple looking for some more mature thrills, these games are as fiery as cinnamon hearts.

8. A Way Out (PlayStation 4, Xbox One & PC) – for couples that love a great story

[ESRB Rating: M]

Don’t break your Valentine’s heart this year, instead, help them break out of prison!

A Way Out puts you and your partner in the shoes of Leo and Vincent who are looking to work together to escape the slammer. Each decision you make as a team impacts how the story ends and believe me it’s a thrilling conclusion that kept us on the edge of our seats! This experience forces you to actively plan and coordinate each move in order to avoid the long arm of the law. If you are looking to share a great story together packed with action and drama, you’ve found it!

9. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War (Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch) – for highly competitive couples [ESRB Rating: M]

Looking for more action, explosions and adrenaline rushes with your player 2? Black Ops Cold War has what you are looking for with plenty of split screen modes that will allow you to share all the action.

The standout co-op experience for me is the series’ iconic Zombies mode with up to four other players online. You can also jump into the traditional multiplayer experience together and watch each other’s six as you battle for glory allowing you both to battle dozens of enemies from the comfort of your couch.

10. Diablo III Eternal Collection (PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) – couples big into demon slaying [ESRB Rating: M]

The couple that slays demonic forces together, stays together!

Diablo III is an action-RPG multiplayer game that lets you choose your own warrior class, explore for powerful weapons, all while battling back the forces of evil. With 7 different classes to choose from, you can incorporate your playstyle into your party, I love melee style characters so I role with the sword-swinging barbarian. The missus supports my haphazard play with the necromancer, often saving my bacon from hell’s minions.

You complement each other so well in real life, why not become the power couple the world needs to destroy legions of evil?

I hope you enjoyed my top Valentine's video game picks, time to snuggle up on the couch for some quality gaming time!
