New Details Around Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Revealed

Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer's Remastered epics debut on the PlayStation 5 January 28th.

The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be swinging onto the PlayStation 5 with upgraded graphics and features on January 28th. The new game will pack two adventures - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy both harnessing the power of the PS5 hardware. To mark the upcoming release PlayStation has shared a new action-packed trailer:

Graphical improvements

As detailed by the PlayStation Blog, players will have different graphical options to choose from:

Fidelity Mode – For those of you who have a 4K display and want super sharp resolution above all else to enjoy the stunning environments and details the Uncharted series is known for, select Fidelity Mode and play in native 4K resolution with a 30fps target framerate.

Performance Mode – Performance Mode targets a 60 FPS frame rate.

Performance+ Mode – If you’re all about the smoothest gameplay possible and don’t mind a resolution drop, try out our first ever Performance+ Mode which targets 120fps at a 1080p resolution. ("Performance+ Mode" requires a TV/monitor with 120Hz capability)

New features on the PS5

The power of the PS5 hardware has allowed Naughty Dog to provide players with new instant load times. Spatial 3D Audio has also been implemented giving you greater awareness in creating greater immersion in the game's environments. The DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers have also been fine-tuned so players feel a greater range of action from driving to hand-to-hand combat, there is a greater range of tactile feedback.

As Rochelle Snyder, Manager Communications for Naughty Dog recounts, "U4 helped us achieve a substantial improvement in almost every aspect of our animation. Our richly detailed cinematics were now able to play real-time, which helped pave the way for a seamless experience to and from gameplay."

Uncharted 4 also lead to new levels of detail for the series, as Snyder explains, "We also layered physics and procedural animations into our animations. All this helped create believable characters, tighter responsiveness, fluidity, and the ability to respond to their environment, leading to a groundbreaking moment."

Pricing and upgrade paths

Much like Death Stranding's upgrade path from last year, you'll be able to upgrade your Uncharted similarly. If you bought Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Uncharted The Lost Legacy, or the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle, Sony has announced that you can pay $10(USD) to upgrade to the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Digital Version.

Owners of PS4 disc copies must insert them into the PS5 every time they want to download or play the PS5 digital versions. PS4 game disc owners who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5 version for the discounted price.

If you claimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End via your PlayStation Plus subscription, you are not eligible for the $10 digital PS5 upgrade.

The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is shaping up to be a "must-have" for PlayStation fans looking to return or jump into the experience for the first time. The collection looks to provide hours of quality gameplay and entertainment, all enhanced for current-gen hardware. With near-instant load times, 3D spatial audio, and upgraded graphics, players will be able to experience Nathan Drake's latest escapades in ways never before possible.
