PlayStation State of Play May 2024 Recap

The latest PlayStation State of Play featured the return of Astro Bot, new looks at Silent Hill 2 Remake and Monster Hunter Wilds.

After months of anticipation, the digital curtain finally lifted on the hotly anticipated PlayStation State of Play. The video direct offered a roadmap of PlayStation first- and third-party titles coming in 2024 and beyond. From adrenaline-fueled showdowns in space to the haunting corridors of Silent Hill, the range of announcements was quite diverse. Among the most exciting reveals were a super-sized Astro Bot, new looks at Silent Hill 2 Remake and Monster Hunter: Wilds. If you couldn’t catch the presentation live, I’ve compiled an in-depth recap complete with all the trailers, release dates and more in one spot, let’s dive in.



Release Date: August 23, 2024

To kick off the State of Play, we got a longer look at the 5v5 character-driven, first-person multiplayer shooter. Players take on the role of “Freegunners,” a group of guns-for-hire roaming the stars and taking high-stakes jobs. The game offered what looks like a tight FPS experience with a good variety of maps and modes. Players will also have access to unique abilities for each character to create strategic advantages.


God of War Ragnarök PC

Release Date: September 19th, 2024

Kratos returns to the PC platform when his latest epic, God of War Ragnarök comes to Steam this Fall. Developed by Jetpack Interactive, the game will feature unlocked framerates, true 4K resolution, and support ultra-widescreen displays. It will also include post-launch updates and the Valhalla DLC, which offers a rogue-lite-inspired journey for players.


Dynasty Warriors Origins

Release Date: 2025

This new entry in the long-running series brings back the classic 1 vs. 1,000 action with a new hero and the largest armies ever seen in the franchise. Players will explore intricate levels, each with its own unique stories, heroes, and adversaries.


Infinity Nikki

Release Date: Beta Test Summer 2024

An open-world dress-up adventure where players use outfits with unique abilities to overcome challenges and explore the world of Miraland. The game looks to offer a deep gathering system, environmental interactions, and a variety of activities like fishing and bug-catching.


Ballad of Antara

Release Date: 2025 TDB

This world-bending, free-to-play action RPG allows players to traverse two worlds alone or with up to three friends. The game features multiple playable characters, known as Emissaries, each with unique gameplay capabilities. Players will embark on an adventure of intertwined fates through exotic landscapes and face challenges to uncover the truth behind the land’s calamity.


Skydance's BEHEMOTH (PS VR2)

Release Date: Fall 2024

Skydance Interactive’s BEHEMOTH is a dark fantasy epic slated for release in Fall 2024. Players will face off against towering monsters in the Forsaken Lands, utilizing a grappling hook for traversal. The game’s narrative is driven by encounters with these Behemoths, each battle a step towards reviving a fallen civilization.


Alien: Rogue Incursion (PS VR2)

Release Date: Holiday 2024

Rogue Incursion is a single-player, action-horror game set in the Aliens universe. Players explore an overrun facility on the planet Purdan, facing the unpredictable and lethal Xenomorphs. The game looks to offer many pulse-pounding moments and jump scares with the PlayStation virtual reality headset. Be afraid, be very afraid.


Marvel Rivals

Release Date: Closed beta July 2024

The Superhero team-based PVP shooter is coming to PlayStation 5, allowing you and your friends to assemble an all-star Marvel squad. The game features destructible, ever-changing battlefields and powers that will help form unique Team-Up skills during matches. The State of Play confirmed Venom as a character and Scarlet Spider as a PS5 exclusive character.


Where Winds Meet

Release Date: TBD

Where Winds Meet is an open-world martial arts adventure set in the Ten Kingdoms Era. Players will step into the shoes of a swordsman who plays a pivotal role in the unfolding conflict, with their decisions significantly impacting the storyline. The game promises a rich narrative and a world where the player’s choices dictate the course of events.


Until Dawn

Release Date: Fall 2024

This updated horror classic will be available on both PS5 and PC, featuring enhanced graphics and performance improvements for a more immersive horror experience. The gameplay trailer revealed that the game has been rebuilt to heighten the tension and fear as eight friends return to an isolated lodge with a dark past. With developer Ballistic Moon at the helm, players can expect a modernized version of the seminal horror game that retains the choice-driven narrative adventure that made the original so compelling.


Path of Exile 2

Release Date: Early Access Late 2024

Path of Exile 2 will enter early access in late 2024, introducing couch co-op when it arrives on PS5. The gameplay trailer gave a glimpse into the game’s expansive classes and the array of magical spells players will wield against enemies. Grinding Gear Games promises a fresh take on the free-to-play model, with cross-play and cross-progression features to enhance the gaming experience.


Silent Hill 2 Remake

Release Date: October 8th for PC and PS5

We got a deeper look and a release date for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake set to arrive on the PC and PS5. The game looks to offer enhanced graphics and gameplay, while staying true to the original’s haunting narrative. New voice actors and motion capture technology have been employed to bring new depth to the characters of James and Maria. The latest look shows off the chilling atmosphere and elements of psychological horror that await players.


Monster Hunter: Wilds

Release Date: TBD 2025

Capcom revealed new details about Monster Hunter: Wilds, emphasizing its “the living world” theme and showcasing a vibrant ecosystem. The gameplay trailer highlighted the Windward Plains, a diverse locale with dynamic environments and extreme weather conditions that transform the landscape. The game, set for release in 2025, promises deeper immersion with seamless quest integration and fully voiced character interactions.


New Astro Bot Game Announced

Release Date: September 6th, 2024

The beloved Astro Bot is back in an all-new super-sized adventure, set to launch early this Fall. This full-fledged platform game will take you through 6 galaxies and over 80 levels, searching for Astro’s scattered crew. The game promises to be Team Asobi’s most ambitious project yet, featuring a variety of environments, including forests, beaches, and volcanoes. The release of Astro Bot’s latest adventure coincides with the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, marking it as a special addition to the celebration. In the trailer, we already saw some fun nods to classic PlayStation characters like PaRappa the Rapper, Nathan Drake, Kratos and more. The game is shaping up to be a joyful celebration of gaming on PlayStation, offering a blend of nostalgia and innovation for fans and newcomers alike. I personally can’t wait to play it, and it was my top highlight of the show.
