Sonic Origins Zips Onto Consoles and PC This Summer

The Sonic Origins collection arrives June 23rd on consoles and PC, players can jump back into the iconic games that started the blue blur's legacy.

Sega has announced Sonic Origins is zooming onto home consoles and PC this summer. The collection arrives on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch just in time for Sonic's birthday on June 23rd.

The collection will bring four classic games in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD to modern platforms.

A Better, Faster, Stronger 16-Bit Sonic

The Origins collection promises to be a new and improved revisiting of the fast-paced platformer that fans of the blue blur know and love. The game will feature classic Sonic gameplay, along with a host of improvements.

New modes like "Boss Rush" will be included letting you face off with bosses in order. There will also be a "Mirror Mode" that will unlock after completing the "A Side" of the games.

A new "story mode" will be included with new animations to help create more cohesion across the titles. New online leaderboards will also be provided for the shortest stage clearance times, so get ready to stack up against the best times in the world.

Classic vs. Anniversary Mode

Players will have the choice of playing in two modes Classic or Anniversary. Below Classic mode (left) retains the same aspect ratio, graphics and difficulty as the original releases. Anniversary mode features updated graphics, full screen mode and infinite lives. (right)

I remember some of the old school challenges the Sonic series would present, I'll be opting for the easier and prettier Anniversary mode personally!

An Array of DLC and Different Version of Origins

Overall, the Sonic Origins package looks quite tantalizing, but there are many different flavours of the game. It appears essential modes, like the aforementioned Mirror Mode will be unlockable in game. It remains to be seen if some of the more premium editions will paywall certain content, or provide quicker access.
