The Last of Us: HBO Series Debut is Here

The Last of Us series will premiere tonight on Crave TV and HBO, here's all you need to know about the show.

This year HBO and Naughty Dog kicked off the Last of Day 2022 with a new look at the live-action The Last of Us series. Excitement since then has been growing with each new trailer, commercial and behind-the-scenes look at the show. With The Last of Us: HBO Series officially premiering tonight on Crave TV and HBO, I've gathered all the essential information you need to know before watching.

The history of The Last of Us

The Last of Us series is based on the popular 2013 video game of the same name by Naughty Dog. It follows protagonists Joel and Ellie as they make their way across the post-apocalyptic United States trying to survive against infected humans and other dangers. This eight-episode series will explore stories from both Joel and Ellie’s perspectives as they attempt to save humanity from a deadly virus outbreak which has taken over America.

HBO and Naughty Dog team-up

The Last of Us co-creator and director Neil Druckman has teamed up with Chernobyl series creator Craig Mazin to bring the project to life. The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020 with critical acclaim and set a new standard for video game storytelling. It is clear that HBO wants to match that with their series, and between the stellar-looking trailers and rave reviews, the show is already off to a great start.

The story follows Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and others as they try to survive in this new, dangerous world. The series also stars Gabriel Luna, Neil Druckmann, Maisie Williams, Joel Kinnaman, and Merle Dandridge.

Critical acclaim fuels excitement before debut

Early reviews have been extremely positive with some calling this the best video game adaptation ever. Critics have praised the show for its artistry, visual storytelling, emotional depth, and powerful performances from Pascal and Ramsey. Fans of The Last of Us can expect to be taken on a thrilling journey through post-apocalyptic America with plenty of action, heart ache, scares, and more.

The first episode will premiere tonight, Sunday, January 15th at 9 pm ET/PT on Crave TV in Canada or streaming on HBO Max in the US. Whether you've played the games, or have been putting it off, the show is certainly worth checking out as it sounds to be one of the best adaptations we've ever seen.
