Ubisoft Forward: Assassin's Creed Showcase

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Assassin's Creed franchise, a roadmap of the brand's future was unveiled.

The Assassin's Creed Showcase at Ubisoft Forward 2022 was the perfect way to leap into the history of the franchise. On its 15th anniversary of the series, fans were treated to a look back at the series history with a special look at some of the most iconic characters and moments.

Looking to the future, Ubisoft also announced several new projects in development from new games, TV series and a documentary. With so much in store for the future of Assassin's Creed, there's plenty to look forward to for fans of the series. Let's take a "leap of faith" in the heap of info presented at the show.

Assassin's Creed Mirage

The first is a brand new Assassin's Creed game coming to consoles and PC, which promises to bring players "back to the roots of the franchise." Assassin's Creed Mirage will have players experience a vibrant and prosperous ninth-century Baghdad.

It looks to be a narrative-driven "coming-of-age story," with a massive open city, a plethora of characters and updated legacy gameplay that focuses on parkour, stealth, and assassinations. The original Assassin's Creed from 2007, is near and dear to my heart, a game that I hold in high regard. So, I have extremely high hopes for Mirage and its new hero Basim Ibn Is’haq. The street thief with a mysterious past, looks to turn master assassin.

“For the 15th anniversary of the franchise we wanted to offer something special to the players and our community”, said Stéphane Boudon, Senior Content Director for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. “Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a tribute to the franchise, and notably to the original game. We are bringing a modern take on the iconic Assassin’s Creed gameplay experience, as well as a deep dive into the rituals and tenets of the Hidden Ones, something we think both longtime and new fans alike will be eager to play.”

Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, will launch worldwide in 2023. Assassin's Creed Mirage will release on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Luna, as well as on Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store.

Beyond The Creed

During the showcase, a documentary "Beyond The Creed" was announced. Some of the saga's most memorable moments are retold covering 15-years of the series. The documentary was influenced by many individuals, including Ubisoft's worldwide studios, fans and content creators.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla "The Last Chapter"

Ubisoft is continuing to show its support for Assassin's Creed Valhalla by releasing new updates and content even though the game has been out for over a year. In a few months, the developer plans to publish the Last Chapter, a free quest in which Eivor will reconnect with some major characters and important historical figures.

The Assassin's Creed Roadmap

Apart from that, the brand's future roadmap has been unveiled, including the next two HD flagship games Codename RED and Codename HEXE as part of the Codename INFINITY hub, as well as AAA mobile game Codename JADE and more information about the collaboration with Netflix. Let's take a look at each new announced Assassin's Creed project:

Assassin’s Creed Codename RED

The next mainline Assassin's Creed game will be set in the long requested timeline of feudal Japan. It is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Odyssey, with Jonathan Dumont as Creative Director.

Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE

The next flagship title after Codename RED will be HEXE which looks to be based in a "darker timeline." It is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, birthplace of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, with Clint Hocking as Creative Director.

Assassin’s Creed Codename INFINITY

INFINITY looks to bring together different experiences, including released Assassin’s Creed games and the next ones to launch: Codename Red and Codename HEXE, the next two HD flagship games. Multiplayer in the Assassin's Creed franchise will return as a standalone experience in "INFINITY."

Assassin’s Creed Codename JADE

The Ancient China-based JADE is an AAA RPG action-adventure game for mobile devices. Players will be able to design their own character and learn about the tale of China's first Assassins. It will be a free to play experience, no firm timeline has been given for release.

Netflix live-action Assassin’s Creed series

The Netflix show will be "an epic, genre-blending adaptation of the world's most successful video game franchise," according to Ubisoft Film & Television's division. Not only is Netflix collaborating on a Assassin's Creed game, but it will also be exclusive to their platform. “By celebrating the franchise’s 15th anniversary, we wanted to not only honor our players and the people behind the brand, but also share our ambitions for the future of Assassin’s Creed with our fans. We are looking to expand the universe and continue to offer compelling, immersive experiences. We have countless stories to tell and we want history to be everybody’s playground.” said Marc-Alexis Côté, Executive Producer on Assassin’s Creed.

The Assassin's Creed franchise has a lot in store for the next few years. With new games, updates and content planned, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
