Ubisoft Reveals Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft unveils the official name for Assassin's Creed Shadows and teases a bigger reveal for later this week, all the details.

A hooded figure poses on a rooftop with a katana and a wrist blade with two buildings in the background and a setting sun that casts the entire image in a red and yellow hue.

Today, Ubisoft announced the official title for its next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise: Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game was previously codenamed Assassin’s Creed: Red, revealed in 2022 during a 15th-anniversary celebration for the series. All the major details shared then were that the game was being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin's Creed Odyssey, with Jonathan Dumont as the creative director.  Now we have an official title, with a tease of a bigger reveal coming this Wednesday, May 15th. The long-awaited title looks to transport players to the historical setting of Feudal Japan, a backdrop that fans have been clamouring for.

Slipping out of the Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to break new ground for the series, with Ubisoft teasing the first official trailer release this week. While the exact release date for the full game remains under wraps, the anticipation is palpable, with the gaming community eagerly awaiting the world premiere trailer scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th, 2024. In the meantime, Ubisoft has revealed a social media countdown event with a giant hourglass ticking off the seconds to the grand reveal:

A linear or open-world Assassin’s Creed experience

Ubisoft has been vocal about its dedication to delivering a high-quality AC experience, distancing itself from the trend of excessively lengthy RPGs. This commitment was demonstrated with the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which harkens back to a tighter, more linear experience that returns to the franchise’s stealth-action roots. Overall, it was viewed as a success, especially for the hardcore Assassin’s Creed audience. It remains to be seen where exactly Shadows will fall, but hopefully, it can strike a great balance with lessons learned from past Assassin’s Creed entries.

Assassin’s Creed slides out of the Shadows

No matter how you slice it, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is shaping up to be a pivotal entry in the Assassin’s Creed saga. With its Feudal Japan setting, Ubisoft looks to deliver an experience honouring the franchise’s legacy while charting a new course for its future. Stay tuned for the official trailer release, which will undoubtedly shed more light on this enigmatic title. For further details, we’ll have to wait for Ubisoft’s official trailer release on May 15th; keep it locked on dappertux.com for all the latest information.
