Xbox Games Showcase 2026 delivered huge reveals: Gears of War: E-Day gameplay, Halo, Fable, Spyro, Call of Duty, and more.

After PlayStation’s State of Play and Summer Game Fest helped kick off the June gaming season, Xbox had the spotlight next, with one of its most important showcases in years. This event arrived at a major turning point for the brand, with Xbox heading toward its 25th anniversary this November and stepping into a new era after a major leadership reshuffle. This showcase had a lot more weight behind it than usual. Xbox needed to show not just games, but direction. And in many ways, from games, services and a new stance on exclusivity, it did just that.
This year’s Xbox Games Showcase was followed by a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct, giving The Coalition’s long-awaited prequel a full deep dive after leading the show with its first gameplay reveal.
Across the presentation, Xbox leaned heavily into big franchises, surprise revivals, day-one Game Pass releases, and a much clearer sense of identity than we have seen from the brand in a while.
Now that the stage is set, let’s dive into everything showcased at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, release dates, trailers, and my key takeaways from each announcement.
Gears of War: E-Day
Release Date: October 6th, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Xbox opened the show with exactly the kind of heavy hitter fans wanted: the first gameplay look at Gears of War: E-Day. Seeing Marcus Fenix before the armour, before the legend, and before the full weight of the Locust War made the opening feel immediately different from a typical Gears game in the best way.
The gameplay looked brutal, grounded, and surprisingly emotional, with The Coalition leaning into the horror and chaos of Emergence Day. The most exciting news is that E-Day launches on October 6, 2026, and the big pivot: It will be an Xbox console exclusive and day-one Game Pass title.
Fable
Release Date: February 23, 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Playground Games returned with a new look at Fable, and this trailer showed a more serious, story-driven side of Albion without losing the series’ personality. The reveal introduced Hayley Atwell as Isabel and teased a darker fantasy adventure with the familiar British wit that makes Fable feel so distinct.
After years of waiting, Fable now has a firm release date: February 23rd, 2027. It is also coming to PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox and PC, showing Xbox’s more selective approach to exclusivity in action.
Halo: Campaign Evolved
Release Date: July 28, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. It’s been completely rebuilt with modern visuals, updated presentation, and new content. The showcase trailer highlighted Operation: METEORITE, a new three-mission prequel arc featuring Master Chief and the tough-as-nails Sgt. Johnson.
The remake launches July 28, 2026, with early access beginning July 23 for select editions. Seeing Halo come to PlayStation 5 still feels surreal, but it also makes this one of the most historic Halo releases ever.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Release Date: August 27, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy had another strong showing, giving us a better look at this prequel set before the events of the main series. This time, the focus is on Sophia, with a story centred on ancient myths, buried secrets, and a more action-oriented style of play.
Persona 4 Revival
Release Date: February 18, 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Atlus brought Persona 4 Revival back to the spotlight with a proper gameplay trailer and a release date. The remake brings Inaba back with updated visuals, quality-of-life improvements, and a modern presentation that should help one of the most beloved Persona games reach a new audience.
State of Decay 3
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
State of Decay 3 finally resurfaced with a substantial gameplay trailer, and it looks like Undead Labs is pushing the survival fantasy much further this time. The focus remains on building communities, managing resources, and surviving in a hostile open world, but the presentation looks much more cinematic and polished.
Sea of Thieves: Custom Seas Update
Release Date: June 18, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Included with Game Pass
Sea of Thieves is getting a major new Custom Seas update on June 18, 2026. The big hook is that players will be able to shape their own pirate adventures, adjusting rules, enemies, items, crews, and more.
Metro 2039
Release Window: February 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
The gameplay trailer leaned into everything Metro does best: tension, atmosphere, survival, stealth, and a world that feels dangerous before a single shot is fired. It also showcased impressive in-game visuals and new threats, making it one of the most moody trailers in the showcase.
Bad Magpie
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Bad Magpie was one of the showcase’s best indie surprises. You play as a one-winged magpie causing trouble in a bright, stylized world, stealing shiny objects and generally making yourself everyone else’s problem. There is a funny Untitled Goose Game-style energy to it, but the trailer also hinted at something more emotional underneath the mischief.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember
Release Window: Early 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
One of the bigger surprises of the show was Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember from Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo. The sequel returns to a dark fantasy version of Chinese history with fast martial arts combat, demonic threats, and big battlefield energy.
The first Wo Long had a strong identity, and this sequel looks like it is building on that foundation with more confidence. It launches in early 2027 and will be available day one on Game Pass.
JOIN US
Release Window: March 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
JOIN US brought one of the showcase's strangest and most unique premises: a darkly comedic action-survival game about building a doomsday cult. You recruit followers, build a compound, manage beliefs, and try to survive in a chaotic open-world co-op setting. It is definitely one of those games that will depend heavily on tone, but the idea is odd enough to stand out and it definitely has my attention.
Senua
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Ninja Theory revealed Senua, a new action-adventure set in the Hellblade universe. While it is connected to Senua’s Saga, the showcase made it clear this is not simply Hellblade III by another name.
The trailer showed a more action-focused direction, with tactical combat, perception-based puzzles, and a vivid world shaped by Senua’s fractured experience. It is coming in 2027 to Xbox, PC, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass.
Fallout 76: Infestations
Release Date: Available now
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Included with Game Pass
Bethesda used the showcase to drop Fallout 76: Infestations, a free update available now. The update changes familiar areas of Appalachia with new danger zones, tougher encounters, and new rewards.
DOOM: The Dark Ages — Revelations
Release Date: July 7, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
DOOM: The Dark Ages is getting a new campaign expansion called Revelations on July 7, 2026. The DLC sends the Slayer into a new chapter with fresh levels, new enemies, more puzzles, and the Chain Spear, which adds another layer of movement and combat utility. After The Dark Ages delivered such a heavy-metal fantasy twist on DOOM, Revelations looks like a strong excuse to jump back in.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2
SEGA’s revivals continued to roll with Crazy Taxi: World Tour, a new entry in one of its loudest, fastest, most chaotic franchises. The trailer immediately tapped into Dreamcast-era nostalgia by bringing back The Offspring’s classic “All I Want,” a song I still associate with Crazy Taxi. That familiar punk-rock blast helped sell the return of the series’ arcade attitude, complete with high-speed driving, wild city routes, and a new globe-trotting structure. The new game adds a story campaign across five cities, online multiplayer, car customization, and a classic mode. Crazy Taxi: World Tour launches in 2027.
Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition
Release Window: November 2026
Platform: New Xbox Series X hardware and controller
To celebrate Xbox’s 25th anniversary, Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console and matching controller. The translucent OG green design is a direct throwback to the original Xbox era, and it honestly feels like the perfect anniversary hardware, and speaks directly to me.
This is not a “new-generation” machine, but it is a great collector’s item and just bleeds cool. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition launches in select markets in November 2026.
Age of Empires IV — Raiders of the North
Release Window: Fall 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC
Game Pass: Included with Game Pass
Age of Empires IV is getting a new expansion called Raiders of the North this fall. The expansion adds Vikings and Scots as new civilizations, along with new masteries, music, voice-over, units, buildings, missions, and biomes.
Minecraft Dungeons II
Release Date: September 29, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Minecraft Dungeons II was officially shown with a new gameplay trailer and a September 29, 2026 release date. The sequel brings back the family-friendly dungeon-crawling action, but with new lands, tougher enemies, deeper customization, and a new threat to the Overworld.
The first Minecraft Dungeons was a great “my first Diablo” style experience, and my son and I had an absolute blast with the game. The sequel looks like it is expanding the idea in all the right ways. This should be a strong Game Pass title for families (it will be for mine!) co-op players, and Minecraft fans.
Magicians: The Devil’s Deal
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Magicians: The Devil’s Deal was one of the most stylish new reveals of the showcase. From publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Uppercut Games, the game is a narrative-driven first-person action adventure set in Theatreland, a twisted version of Victorian London where stage magic becomes terrifyingly real. The BioShock influence is hard to miss, but that is not a bad thing when the presentation looks this atmospheric.
Valor Mortis
Release Date: September 24, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Valor Mortis is a first-person action Soulslike from One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner. Set in a dark alternate vision of the Napoleonic Wars, the game follows a former soldier who rises from death and gains supernatural powers. The showcase trailer had a grim, stylish tone and revealed Vincent Cassel as the voice of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The Elder Scrolls Online — Return of the Thieves Guild
Season Start Date: July 8th, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Included with Game Pass
The Elder Scrolls Online is bringing the Thieves Guild back into focus with a new season beginning July 8, 2026. The update includes a new Thieves Guild storyline in Glenumbra, high-seas events, new challenges, rewards, and more Tamriel-wide trouble.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 — World Update 22 and Air Races
Release Date: World Update 22 launches July 4, 2026; Air Races launch Fall 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC
Game Pass: Included with Game Pass
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 showed off World Update 22: US National Parks, which adds more than 30 national parks and monuments to the game. The update also features the Goodyear Blimp and launches July 4, 2026. The bigger reveal was National Championship Air Races, coming this fall with high-speed aviation competition over Reno, Nevada and Roswell, New Mexico.
Where Winds Meet — Hidden Mountain
Release Window: July 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Where Winds Meet had a big Xbox moment, with the open-world Wuxia action RPG arriving on Xbox and its Hidden Mountain expansion teased for July 2026. The game mixes martial arts combat, open-world exploration, and ancient Chinese history-inspired storytelling. The shadow-drop style announcement helped it stand out during a packed showcase. For players who enjoy stylish combat and big open worlds, Where Winds Meet could become a major sleeper hit on Xbox.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
Release Date: October 15th, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5
Konami showed a new trailer for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse and confirmed an October 15, 2026 release date. The new 2D action-exploration game is being developed with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the creators of Dead Cells.
Set 23 years after Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse, the game follows Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont. It looks like a smart blend of classic Castlevania structure and modern action-platforming speed.
Vivarium
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
After a showcase packed with shooters, survival horror, and dark fantasy, Vivarium brought a much softer tone. This life-sim adventure features hand-illustrated art inspired by classic anime, with players exploring a strange pocket world filled with cozy routines and hidden mysteries.
The contrast helped it stand out in a big way. Vivarium looks like the kind of game that starts cute, then slowly reveals there is more going on beneath the surface.
Persona 6
Release Date: TBAPlatform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Atlus did not just bring Persona 4 Revival; it also finally announced Persona 6. The teaser was brief, stylish, and mysterious, with a green logo and a tone that already has fans picking apart every second. There is no release date yet, but the announcement alone was huge. For Xbox, having Persona 6 confirmed for Game Pass is another major sign of how much the platform’s relationship with Japanese publishers has grown.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond
Release Window: Spring 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Spyro is finally back with Spyro: A Realm Beyond, a new original game from Toys for Bob. After years of wondering what was next for the purple dragon, this reveal was one of the happiest surprises of the entire showcase.
The trailer showed a colourful new world, expanded exploration, and true dragon flight. In a showcase filled with darker games, Spyro brought the kind of joyful platforming energy that feels refreshing right now.
Clockwork Revolution
Release Window: 2027
Platform: Xbox Series X|S and PC
Game Pass: Day one on Game Pass
Clockwork Revolution returned with a deeper look at inXile Entertainment’s time-bending steampunk RPG. The new trailer introduced Morgan’s gang, the Rotten Row Hooligans, and showed off a world full of stylish chaos, political tension, and butterfly-effect storytelling.
The biggest Xbox-specific news is that Clockwork Revolution is confirmed as an Xbox console exclusive. For a brand trying to re-establish why its hardware matters, this was one of the clearest statements in the showcase.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Release Date: October 23, 2026
Platform: Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2
Xbox closed the main showcase with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and a first look at DMZ. The mode looks more tactical, and more extraction-focused than a standard Call of Duty multiplayer reveal, with players deploying into a volatile combat zone and trying to make it out with what they can carry.
Gears of War: E-Day Direct
After the main showcase wrapped, Xbox moved straight into the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. The Coalition used the dedicated presentation to explain how E-Day rebuilds the franchise from the ground up while still staying true to what makes Gears feel like Gears.
The Direct focused on Marcus and Dom’s early relationship, the fall of the city of Kalona, and the horror of seeing the Locust emerge for the first time. The team also highlighted new gameplay additions, including smoother cover transitions, low cover, sprint slides, jumping, more vertical combat, and co-op support.
What stood out most to me is that E-Day is not trying to be Gears 6; instead, it’s going back to the beginning. Making Emergence Day feel personal, terrifying, and immediate. For a franchise that helped define the Xbox 360 era, this has me excited for the franchise, and I simply cannot wait to see more.
Final Thoughts on Xbox Games Showcase 2026
The Xbox Games Showcase 2026 felt like a turning point. Not because every question about Xbox’s future was answered, but because the show had plenty of confidence, excellent pace, and purpose. It balanced nostalgia with new ideas, platform strategy with Game Pass value, and big franchise moments with genuinely interesting surprises.
For me, this was one of Xbox’s strongest showcases in years because it felt like the company had something to prove and actually came prepared. As Xbox heads into its 25th anniversary, the brand still has plenty to figure out, but this show gave fans something they have been asking for: games, dates, surprises, and a clearer reason to be excited about what comes next.
